Patricia Krenwinkel Denied Pardon by Governor Newsom

Oct. 14. (HLR) - California Governor Gavin Newsom has denied a pardon for Patricia Krenwinkel, the longest-incarcerated follower of Charles Manson, reaffirming his earlier decision to block her parole. Now 77, Krenwinkel was convicted in the 1969 Tate–LaBianca murders and has served more than five decades in prison. In his decision, Newsom cited “the gravity of her crimes” and questioned whether Krenwinkel had shown full insight into her role in the killings. Supporters argued her record and rehabilitation warrant mercy, but the governor maintained that her release would undermine justice and public confidence. Krenwinkel’s case continues to highlight California’s struggle between rehabilitation and accountability—a debate that, in the shadow of the Manson legacy, remains as haunting as ever.

Alec Baldwin, Brother Safe After Hampton's Crash

Oct. 14 (HLR) - Actor Alec Baldwin has said he and his brother Stephen are “fine” after a car crash in East Hampton on Monday. In an Instagram video, Baldwin said he was driving his wife’s Range Rover and was hit by “a garbage truck the size of a whale,” when the truck changed lanes and cut him off. Baldwin said that he had to swerve and hit a tree to avoid a collision. Police confirmed the details of the incident, which they said happened at about noon on State Route 27, and involved a 2023 white Range Rover and a 2020 Mack truck owned by National Waste Services. There were no injuries, and no citations were issued, the police said. They also cited wet roads as a contributing factor. “The cars pretty smashed up,” Baldwin said in the video, but added that he and his brother were fine. He thanked East Hampton Police and the responding officer for their assistance and went on to congratulate the organizers of the Hamptons International Film Festival, which Baldwin and his brother had attended over the weekend. He added he was on his way back to Los Angeles to rejoin his family.
