HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Hollywood Forever Cemetery will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of screen legend Rudolph Valentino with the 99th Annual Valentino Memorial Service and a special centennial screening of Valentino’s final film, The Son of the Sheik (1926) on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
The Valentino Memorial Service, Hollywood’s oldest continuous annual tradition, will take place within Hollywood Forever's Cathedral Mausoleum at 12:10 p.m. on August 23rd (the exact day and precise time of his death in New York City a century ago). For nearly a century, admirers, historians, family members, and members of the public have gathered to honor the enduring legacy of one of cinema’s first international superstars.
In addition to the memorial service, Hollywood Forever will present the Los Angeles premiere of the Cohen Film Collection’s restoration of The Son of the Sheik, accompanied by a recorded orchestral score by renowned composer and conductor Carl Davis. The screening will begin at 6:00 p.m. in Hollywood Forever’s Masonic Lodge. The Son of the Sheik, Valentino's iconic, final film, is part of the National Film Registry and signature showcase of "The Great Lover" of early Hollywood.
Prior to the screening, doors will open at 5:00pm and guests will have the opportunity to view a special exhibition featuring original posters, lobby cards, and other rare memorabilia from the film.
Both events are free and open to the public. Seating and attendance are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Complimentary popcorn & candy will be available at the evening screening.
